Glide Free was started to develop sailing kits to allow existing sailing dingy to foil. Many lightweight high-performance sailing boats exist that foil.

The challenge was to develop a retrofittable system to allow traditional sailing boats like Lasers or Aero’s and Traning boats like Toppers and O’pen Bic’s to foil to help develop talent to feed the ranks of the Americas Cup sailors and show what is possible.

Glide Free Foils is owned by Peter Stephinson, based in Sydney, Australia. The company was formed in 2013 to commercialise the Glide Free foiling kit, originally developed for the International Laser dinghy.

Manufacturing, assembly and despatch is carried out in Warriewood, NSW from Australian designed and manufactured components.

We have since adapted this kit to many dinghies and catamarans including the RS Aero, Melges 14, Open Bic, Devoti DZero and Nacra 18 catamaran.

Technical information

Foils deflect the water downwards as the boat moves forward – the upper surface also sucks the water down, both effects create lift, sufficient to lift the entire boat clear of the water.

Training & Coaching

Glide Free Foils believes that learning to use our Glide Free Foils on dinghies requires perseverance, akin to learning to sailboard. Support and training to produce the best results for our customers.
